  1. Someone has already given you the train website for Rome to Naples. If you take the train rather than a guided tour, the high speed trains from Rome to Naples take 1 hr 27 min. when you get to Naples, you'll need to change to the Circumvesuviana trains in another section of the station. Take the train toward Sorrento and get off at Pompeii Scavi station. There's a schedule here: http://www.vesuviana.it/Reteeorari/Ferro... Click on Napoli Garibaldi to get the times of trains going toward Pompeii and Pompeii Scavi to get the times of the trains back to Naples. The ruins are a short walk from the train station.

  2. The train is a bit faster than the bus, about 2 hours 15' journey, check the official Italian Rails website for timetables/costs: http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

The journey by bus is about 3 hours long, for info check http://www.ibus.it/english/index_en.htm

  3. it's about 4 hours drive, i dont know about the bus but i think the train would be better! and it's Pompeii

  4. there is a coach bus service - there is a loads of 'travel agencies' in rome for tourists that can arrange this for you.  we did a day trip we organised a couple of days earlier from a travel agency/touristy bureau we came across in the street.

it did take about three hours with a psychopath bus driver and equally scary traffic.  i'm from australia, and NOT used to traffic like that!!!

there were tons of coaches when we got there.

    try somewhere like this http://www.sosrome.com/trip7.html

  5. pompeii is near naples.. so about 4 hours in a car.. you could take a bus to napoli or train.. then take the circumvesuviana to pompeii or herculaneum or stabia...

a word of warning pompeii is huge so it's no day trip from rome.. also don't go in july or august, unless you like to cook, as the temperatures can reach 40°.. because the ruins are all stone it's like walking around inside an oven... i live here and went to pompeii last week it was only 28° but that was already getting too hot.. take plenty of water and buy something to eat in naples itself as it will be lots cheap.. a panino cost €5,,

  6. a lot
