Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku wins Chelsea FIFA 12 Pro Player tournament
Electronic Arts held a FIFA 12 tournament in London in which a number of players from the Chelsea squad took part with striker Romelu Lukaku emerged the champion.
In an effort to promote their latest game the publisher, Electronic Arts, held one of their Pro Player tournaments in the nation’s capital to find out which player in the Chelsea line-up was the best FIFA player in the squad.
A number of players turned up including temperamental Portuguese defender David Luiz, who took the tournament so seriously many would have thought his life depended on it. Other players included a number of Chelsea’s reserves and starlets such as Josh McEachren and Romelu Lukaku.
However, as the one versus one tournament got under way, David Luiz made an early exit after seeing his side fall to a narrow defeat. However, he did provide plenty of entertainment with his off the field antics and exasperated reactions to anything that did not go his way.
He offered to shake his opponents hand when he lost his match, only to pull it away he it was offered in return and managed to earn a few laughs in the process. It was all good fun throughout the tournament though one could sense that a number of players were taking the game fairly seriously and there was a competitive edge to the fixtures.
In the end Belgian striker, Romelu Lukaku and Josh McEachren made it to the final, which was hotly contested. Luiz managed to make a nuisance of himself once again by covering the eyes of each of the players in turn.
After a shaky start Lukaku cruised to victory with a convincing 4-1 win over his opponent after which he announced what had already become obvious, “I’m the best FIFA player.” There was no doubting that as Lukaku showed the kind of prowess in front of the virtual opposition’s goal that Chelsea manager, Andrea Villas Boas, would expect of him on the real pitch.
When asked what Lukaku enjoyed the most about winning the FIFA 12 Chelsea Pro Player tournament, he replied, “I love the silence.” He was of course referring to the silence of all the opponents he had ousted on his way to claim the crown.
The FIFA 12 Pro Player tournament is nothing new but with EA now having their own YouTube channel, it has become easier for fans to keep up with the best FIFA players in their favourite clubs. The Chelsea Pro Player tournament was followed by one in Fulham.
A number of professional footballers are known to play FIFA games in their spare time including the likes of Fernando Torres, Mikel Arteta and Darren Bent among others.
