The newest Chelsea signing Romelu Lukaku revealed he was extremely pleased to make a move to his dream club. The 18-year-old signed with the Blues from Anderlecht on a long-term five year deal for an estimated fee of £20 million. The young striker confessed
he was having the time of his life training alongside hero Didier Drogba and was looking forward to playing alongside him in a competitive game.
Lukaku admittedly began supporting Chelsea in 2000, after watching Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in the blue jersey. His love for the club only intensified when Drogba arrived in 2004 from Ligue 1 side Marseille during the reign of Jose Mourinho. His admiration
grew for the Ivory Coast international until he came to be known as the “new Drogba.”
Having previously visited Stamford Bridge in 2009 while still in school, Lukaku was overwhelmed when he saw the home of the Blues. His reaction, which was caught on tape, shows just how excited Lukaku was to be there. The player told his teacher he would
one day play for Chelsea and two years later his dream came true.
Lukaku claimed he had two jerseys of his favourite striker, wore the same shoes as him and even had a poster of him in his room. He revealed he believed he would go on to play for Chelsea and had worked hard to achieve his dream. The Belgian forward said
he would not take his move to the London club for granted and was looking forward to making it to the first team.
Lukaku said in an interview:
“When you are a true fan of a team and you can play for them, it's the best thing in the world.
But you must also be focused - I'm not a fan anymore, I'm a player.”
Lukaku said he was looking forward to playing alongside Drogba in attack and was confident the two would form a dangerous partnership. Both strikers are strong, with pace and an excellent ability to find the back of the net. Their similarities could indeed
make for a very successful partnership, which Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas could be tempted to try out this season.
Lukaku revealed:
“I'm sure Drogba and I could form an effective partnership. In training it works all the time.
If you work in function with your partner, it can always work. You need to listen to each other.”
With the 33-year-old Ivorian being linked with a move away, Lukaku said he desperately wanted Drogba to stay. He claimed he had a lot to learn from the Chelsea hit-man and was looking forward to lessons from his idol for at least two years. Lukaku revealed
he would be saddened if Drogba decided to leave Chelsea in the current transfer window.
He continued:
“He's like my big brother, I tell him that. I say to him every day that he has to stay.
He has to stay for me. If I can play for two more years he can prepare me for the big http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684. I know he wants to stay.”
