http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Romelu-Lukaku-c31672 willing to wait for first team football at Chelsea
Romelu Lukaku, the 18-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 international, revealed he was willing to suffer if it meant securing a place in the first team soon. The young striker was highly impressive in the Carling Cup clash against Fulham on Wednesday, a fixture Chelsea went
on to win 4-3 on penalties.
The Cup fixture against the London rivals at Stamford Bridge was Lukaku’s first full debut for the Blues, and did well even when Chelsea were reduced to ten men after defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 was sent off for a rash tackle. According to Lukaku, it had been a pep talk
from Chelsea skipper John Terry that helped him perform even better.
Lukaku said while speaking to reporters:
“He said I had to keep going because the team needed me.
I know I have to suffer if I am to win things. I have to go through pain. Chelsea has a winning culture so if, I have to suffer to win something, I prefer to suffer.”
After Alex was sent off, Terry and Frank Lampard were brought on to bring stability to the young team. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 team against Fulham was a mixture of young and old and did well to maintain a clean sheet. The former Anderlecht youngster revealed the introduction
of the senior players had been crucial for the Blues’ passage into the next round of the Carling Cup.
He revealed:
"The experienced lads are helping us, like against Fulham.
John Terry, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097, Didier Drogba were always speaking to us before the game and also at half-time. They keep us sharp also in training and we're happy to train with those guys.”
Having not played a major role in the mid-week clash, the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 are expected to return for the weekend clash
against Swansea City in the English Premier League.
The return of Didier Drogba and Torres’ top form in the trip to Manchester United could mean that Lukaku could have to wait until he gets a chance to start again. If Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas plans to keep Lukaku for Carling Cup fixtures, then he
could have to wait as much as a month.
However, Lukaku revealed he was perfectly happy to wait for his chance to be selected in the first team by the Portuguese manager. He said he would try and impress Villas-Boas until the manager decided he had the quality to start a game for the Blues.
He continued:
“We have a lot of games this season. I'm patient, but when I have the chance to play, I will do my best to show myself to the boss.”
