First up - Romeo and Juliet is actually a play (yes, there's a film but the play came first, a very long time ago).

Basically - Romeo & Juliet were from opposing families. They fell in love but their families were against the union. Much angst ensued. They both ended up dead.

Not Shakespeare's cheeriest of plays, that's for sure.

Oh, and the famous line of "Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?" does NOT mean "where are you Romeo?". Wherefore means "why" so it means "why are you Romeo?" ie "why did you have to be from that family which my own family despise". It really annoys me when people get the meaning of "wherefore" wrong!

From feuding families, the protagonists courted secretly. These "star-cross'd lovers" were discovered and separated. Knowing that they would only in heaven, they took one gift that was nearly as precious as their love: their lives.
