Romeo Crennel has his chances for head coach job increased
The position of Kansas City Chiefs’ interim coach Romeo Crennel has strengthened following a Chiefs victory over the Denver Broncos.
Tim Tebow boasts a lot in much hyped news of his exploits. So when he comes out low ending up in disgrace at the hands of the Chiefs, Crennel is sure to take in a lot of support and credit. And why shouldn’t he? Isn’t he the coach
after all of the team that defeated the much hyped Tim Tebow?
It has been no secret that Crennel has been eyeing the permanent post of head coach ever since he took over the interim coach job. He has made his resolve to achieve this target public. After being appointed as the interim coach
for the remaining three games, in place of the fired Todd Haley, Crennel set out to change the team and has been very impressive in his endeavours since day one.
Crennel proved himself as one of the best defensive coordinators in the league under whom the Chiefs transformed their defence into their biggest strength. Crennel also has experience working as the head coach for the Cleveland
Browns. Kansas City general manager Scott Pioli has made it clear that Crennel would get a chance for the job and will be called for the interview. Pioli also commented that Crennel commanded a lot of respect in the locker team.
The courage and success he showed against the unbeaten Green Bay Packers was impressive. He had his team fuelled up for the victory with his words that will surely be remembered by the Chiefs for a very long time. There was no
way Chiefs’ fans could have expected this out of their newly appointed interim coach.
"Everybody had marked it off as a win for the Packers, but those guys in the locker room, they're football players. They decided they were not going to lay down, they were not going to give up, so they went out and played a tremendous
game." Crennel said.
And the Chiefs really did go in for the kill unmoved by the strong Packets team and achieved the unexpected. It was in that game that Crennel’s decision to bring in Kyle Orton paid off. Orton brought in to replace Matt Cassel and
completed 23 of 31 passes in the game for 299 yards. And against the Denver Broncos this Sunday, Orton completed 15 of 29 passes for 180 yards and gave in no interceptions.
Two of the Chiefs players have also come out in support of Crennel lately. The two players who announced their support are Tamba Hali and Bill Muir. This comes in as a strong advantage for Crennel who has been seeing his chances
of becoming the permanent head coach strengthened day by day.
So coming off with two victories despite injuries to key players like Matt Cassel, Jamaal Charles, Tony Moeaki and Eric Berry is undoubtedly a big achievement. The defeat sustained at the hands of Oakland Raiders was in fact a
closely fought encounter in which the Raiders hardly managed to take the game. With a 16-13 loss, much cannot be blamed on Crennel who surely deserves a lot of credit for the improvement and change that the Chiefs have undergone recently.
However, there are other contenders too for the post, so Crennel will be having a hard time when the Chiefs opt to select a permanent coach in future.
