I have an english group oral on Romeo & Juliet on 'fate.' We split up the scenes we were going to do and I got stuck with "Mercutio's death scene." Can someone help me analyse this scene, how it's related to fate.. etc? Great appreciation! :]

  1. have u not read the play for god sake!!! Shakespeare's plays are incredibly interesting just read it and u will enjoy it.

Mercuitios death is related to the fate of the play as romeo kills tybalt juliets cousin and did not want to fight him for that reason as he did not want to fight his cousin. Mercutio gets involved and is slayed be Tybalt mercutio says " a plague upon both ur houses", romeo then slays Tybalt with his frustration.

Prince Escalus has warned both families about the quarels and banishes Romeo from fair Verona away from Juliet making it impossible for their relationship to work out and the plan by Friar Lawerance to make Romeo and Juliet be together with the hope that the fued between the two families will end, however this goes drastically wrong and leads to the death of "Juliet and her Romeo", "for never was there a story of more woe than the story of JUliet and her Romeo." this is how the death of Mercutio is related to the fate of the play.

  2. Well I'm not about to do your homework for you! And besides it's been a while since I studied this play.

Consider that Mercutio was the only character in the play that disapproved of the feuding and what his death must signify. Also consider what he said upon dying, "a plague on both your houses".

  3. Well mercutio's death scene was a significant factor in the death of Romeo and Juliet.

If Mercutio hadn't have been killed, Romeo wouldn't have killed Tybalt and he would have not been banished.

Mercutio also had nothing to do with Tybalt, he happened to be there and defend Romeo which fate brought him to a death!
