Romeo and Juliet Book?

If I were to write a book based on the story-line or having to do with Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet', would it be considered copyright infringement if I display the book and Shakespeare in the story? Like an example: The girl's life is like going exactly like Juliet's life and her parents love the book or she reads the book or something.

  1. i dont think that that would be a copy right infringement and even if it was he is dead so its not like you can ask for his permission

  2. Well Shakespeare has been dead for centuries. I don't know if anyone owns the rights now. I doubt it would be considered copyright infringement since I'm not even sure it's copyrighted.

  3. Well i would suggest you find out about the copy right on it but you can pretty much just say it is a modern romeo and Juliet or it was based on shakespeare's play. if you get it published the publicist will tell you if its legal.

  4. There have been tons and tons and tons of books exactly like that.

West Side Story off the top of my head.

    Be original.

  5. Romeo and Juliet is in the public domain now, so you wouldn't run into any copyright infringement issues. I love modern takes on old stories, so good luck!

  6. no, basically every story is based, in some way, on another book. there are a lot of other books that do that too.

  7. The mention of the book itself wouldn't be a problem, but the girl's life you might need to some on-line searching to see if it fits into the guidelines
