What kind of irony is this line made by Mercutio?

Why, that same pale hardhearted wench, that Rosaline,

Torments him so that he will surely run mad (2.4.4)

can anyone help me out? THX!!!

  1. Dramatic Irony.

    Mercutio believes that Romeo is in love with Rosaline and that love will destroy him, when the audience knows that it's Juliet he's "in love with" now.

  3. i cant remember when he says it but the irony is that the minute Romeo sees Juliet he completely forgets about rosaline
