Rommel Pacheco dominates Men's 10m Platform heat: Day four – 2011 Pan American Games

Pan American Games gold medallist, Rommel Pacheco dominated the qualifying rounds of Men's 10m Platform discipline on the fourth day of diving competition at the 2011 Pan American Games. The meet ended on Saturday, October 29 at the Scotiabank Aquatics Center
in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The Pan American Games is one of the major international events and is organised every fourth year.
The 25-year-old Pacheco astonished the aquatic crowd by his ruthless efforts in the qualifying session of 10m individual event.
Pacheco's smothering efforts were challenged by Thomas Finchum of USA, but the Mexican managed to earn his way as the top qualifying diver.
Finchum emerged as the strongest contender for top spot in the initial round, where he scored 83.20 points. He was followed by Pacheco, who gained a total of 80 points in the first round.   
Nevertheless, the Mexican demonstrated his breath-taking efforts in the second round, where he accumulated a total of 174.35 points to surpass his American rival. Finchum remained almost 20 points behind him, gathering 156.70 points in the second round.
The battle continued in the third lap, but the Pacheco extended his lead by accomplishing a total of 251.15 points to overwhelm Finchum's 221.50 points effort. In the third round, the 25-year-old extended his lead to 23.05 seconds by achieving a wonderful
score of 335.30 points against American's 312.25 efforts.
In the next round, Pacheco sustained his position by obtaining a score of 424.40 points where as the American gathered 396.40 points.
In the meantime, the arena experienced overwhelming efforts of the Mexican divers, who overpowered his strongest opponent with a top qualifying score of 519.80 points. Finchum remained 47.80 points away from the champion and reached the podium for second
position with a score of 472.00 points.
The third spot of the race was secured by Pacheco's team-member, Ivan Garcia, who proved her mettle for the third best qualification spot by gaining 456.40 points.
The arena went wild with the heart-winning efforts of all divers, who tried to escape each other for the top qualifying position. Furthermore, Pacheco expressed happiness over his finest qualifying position and articulated his desire of continuing the same
in the final round.
