Question:

Romote speaker options?

Hi,

I have my computer in my study room. Now and again I wish to listen to music in the kitchen - when washing up for example, or in the living room when friends are over. It would be cool if I could somehow play music from my computer through speakers located in these other locations. What options are available for doing this? Are there devices that would allow remote control of the computer's audio software also.

I have an iMac computer.

Thanks,

Barry,

  1. I will tell u what i have done

a simple 2 GB Taiwanese portable media player / flash drive does the trick ..costs abt 20 USD here

put the audio files u want to hear on it  and buy simple spkrs ,..seperate sets for each area and install them to look cool near ceiling corners

take the player to where u r connect to the spkrs and ur done

PS i  have the same in my four rooms

  2. There used to be speaker switch boxes available that normally connected by rca jacks.  So all you need is a cable from output of system to switch box (miniplug stereo to rca jacks or normal size plug) and then speaker wires to each room u want to have speakers in.  Note that the wire run should be kept to as few feet as possible to reduce line loss (resistance).  We used to do this with stereos.

Now I use a laptop and  use a powered 3 pc speaker set (2.1) in the dinning room so can hear in living/dinning/kitchen.
