Ron Artest confirms his plans to play in the United Kingdom during the Lockout – NBA Update
What seemed like mere speculation, turned into reality yesterday after Ron Artest confirmed that he would love to play for the Cheshire Jets in the British Basketball League (BBL). Until yesterday, Ron had not commented on the
issue and his agent had stated that Ron will be going to England to hold talks with the team.
"I'm definitely going to play for the Jets," stated the Los Angeles Lakers forward."I'm definitely going to play for the Jets."
Although there is hardly any money involved, Ron is quite excited about spending his time in England during the lockout. The club can reportedly only pay him around $1500 to $ 2500 per month.
However, there is more to the deal than meets the eye. The British based club have offered Ron an opportunity to promote and nurture his music as well as acting career. This along with the fact that Ron claimed a desire to play
ball and have fun, is expected to have brought him to make this conclusion.
"I thought, 'Where can I go to play ball and enjoy myself?' “He said.
The Jets are reportedly trying to find Artest a place in a prominent British soap opera. When confronted with the question as to whether he would like to play a role in it, Ron was quick to make his intentions clear.
"I went on Jimmy Kimmel in my underwear, so, of course I would do a soap opera," Artest said, according to the newspaper. "Hands down. When they told me I had the opportunity and asked if I wanted to do a soap opera, I said, 'Of
course, man.' I'm not going to run away. When I was a kid, I wanted to be on TV. Why would I run away from being on TV?"
Although the British League starts from September, Artest will be joining late as he will be going to Finland to play with the team Loimaa Bisons for one week. He did not hesitate to explain the reasons behind his one week trip
to Finland.
"One reason I want to go to Finland is it's the cleanest country in the world," Artest said,. "I want to experience that. I'm amazed by that”.
Upon inquiring as to why Ron was not following other players like Deron Williams to the big European Leagues, Artest showed signs of arrogance as he strictly stated that if anyone wanted to play the best defensive player of the
game, they should come to England. He explained that he was not a follower, but rather a trend setter.
Through his career, the Lakers forward has averaged 14.8 points per game, 3.0 assists per game and 4.8 rebounds per game.
