Ron Artest name change request delayed due to outstanding traffic warrants: NBA News
On Friday night, those who were expecting to see ‘Meta World Peace’ on the back of the jersey of Los Angeles Lakers small forward Ron Artest will have to wait at least until 16th September, as the court delayed Ron’s
bid to change his name.
Two months back, Artest’s lawyer submitted the necessary documents with the petition that Los Angeles Lakers veteran small forward wants to change the name to ‘Meta World Peace’ due to some personal reasons. The court gave the
eccentric forward till 26th August to consider the request.
On the given day, when the scheduled hearing took place, the Los Angeles court commissionaire cited Ron’s outstanding traffic warrants and delayed the request.  Additional information was not revealed straight away.
According to the law, any kind of change in identity cannot be done until the criminal charges or outstanding warrants are not fulfilled and as a result Artest was told that he has to wait to have his name altered officially.
The 31-year-old Artest did not show up in the court on Friday and his attorney Jill Rubin was present to carry on the proceedings. After the verdict was given by the judge to postpone the request on account of outstanding traffic
warrant, Rubin declined to comment. The next hearing will take place on the 16th of next month and until then Ron is advised to clear all the charges against him in order to proceed further with the name change request.
Ron Artest, who is best known for the most famous scuffle in the history of the National Basketball Association, had planned a barbeque to celebrate his new identity which he announced on a social networking website. However, Ron
will now be more concerned to discharge himself from the traffic warrants instead.
This year has been inconsistent for the Los Angeles Lakers small forward. In his last season, Artest posted the lowest average of his NBA career despite being healthy and playing all of the 82 games for the first time in his career.
Artest averaged 8.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in more than 29 minutes of playing time during the season and failed to impress in the playoffs.
Artest will be looking forward to get back on his actual strength in the next season but before that he has some outstanding traffic warrants to take care of.
