Ron Francis becomes a partner of the Carolina Hurricanes ownership team -NHL Update
The Carolina Hurricanes just got stronger, management wise, as former hockey player and Hockey Hall of Famer, Ron Francis, joined the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise as a partner and became a member of the ownership team.
He is now officially known as part owner of the Carolina Hurricanes, which was made public by the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday, September 12, 2012.
"It is very encouraging that these locally-based investors feel so strongly about our franchise and its future," Hurricanes Owner Peter Karmanos said. "We are proud to have this group of prominent North Carolinians involved with our team."
Francis is one of the best players to have ever graced the sport of hockey without a doubt as the hall of famer has 1,798 point (549 goals, 1,249 assists) in 1,731 games played, making him one of the few to actually have more scored points than games played
under his belt.
He is the fourth on the list of highest scoring players in NHL history and spent 16 of his 23 NHL seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes, which were also previously known as the Hartford Whalers before being shifted to Carolina.
Francis had already been serving the club as their vice president of hockey operations along with a number of titles in the past, but will now be moving up to a much higher position with having stakes in the club.
This move is definitely seen to be one which will help the Carolina Hurricanes in the longer run as they work towards becoming a Stanley Cup winning team again. With a number of top level acquisitions during the offseason, especially like Jordan Staal of
the Pittsburgh Penguins, Ron Francis is just another addition to their list, but in terms of actually managing the team altogether.
It is not sure whether Francis will be looking after some specific set of duties for the team or whether it will be in just an overall sense, but many expect him to bring some changes in order to boost and recharge the club for an upcoming regular season.
It will be interesting to see how his presence makes a difference for the team.
