Ron Hornaday claims 50th career Camping World Truck Series win at Kentucky 225 – NASCAR news
Ron Hornaday recorded his 50th career Camping World Truck Series win as he held off Austin Dillon to win the Kentucky 225 at the Kentucky Speedway on Saturday, October 1, 2011.
Hornaday, who is a four-time Truck Series champion, collected his third win of the season and while it may not be enough to get the 53-year-old near his 5th title, it will give him a boost for the next five races.
Hornaday led the race four times for 42 laps and there were a record 15 lead changes between 11 drivers as the race provided plenty of excitement for the fans. Hornaday took the lead for the final time from Todd Bodine on the final 11 laps and completed
the race 0.438 seconds ahead of Dillon.
“It will mean a lot when I sit on the front porch in the rocking chair with my grandkids and I can tell them that I won 50 races,” Hornaday said.
Dillon started from pole and will be disappointed not to have won the race but will settle for a second place finish. James Buescher kept Dillon’s lead in check as he finished 3rd.
Hornaday’s teammate Nelson Piquet Jr. came in at 4th with Brian Ickler, filling in for Kyle Busch, finishing in 5th.
Ricky Carmichael, Todd Bodine, Cole Whitt, Dakoda Armstrong and David Starr rounded off the top 10.
Johnny Sauter will be disappointed as his title chances took a hit as he finished in 14th position behind Austin’s teammate Joey Coulter.
Ty Dillon, making his debut in the Truck Series, put in an impressive performance and finished 18th after running out of fuel two laps before the finish.
Austin Dillon still leads the Truck Series, increasing his lead to 3 points over James Buescher. Johnny Sauter now finds himself 16 points adrift of Dillon in 3rd place.
“It's going to be close,” Dillon said. “I feel like we're hitting our stride here at the end. I feel like I am very confident in winning this championship and I want to go to the next five races and do what I have to do to get it done.”
