Ron Roenicke impressed by Logan Schafer
The Milwaukee Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke on Wednesday, March 14, praised the powerful hitting of young outfielder Logan Schafer. The 25 year old hitter combines talent and power to and control to monopolize and dominate the field.
He established its evidence in Tuesday’s game where the Brewers were facing the Houston Astros. Schafer, commanding as he was, remained 3-for-4 in the Cactus League game, exhibiting the talent he possesses.
That is what Roenicke finds unbelievable. "He's been unbelievable, everything he's done," Roenicke said. "Everything is working for him. It is fun to watch."
Schafer, however, has come in the team at a time when the Brewers are supplied and equipped with equally capable and experienced outfielders. In the presence of Ryan Braun, Nyjer Morgan and Carlos Gomez, it indeed is not very easy to slate your spot in the club.
However, the player is undeterred as he knows that the Brewers are an accommodating side, which appreciates and provides opportunity to any talent. The incredible hitter will definitely have his chances on the field at an appropriate time.
If nothing else, his .315 average in the Minor Leagues serves as an infallible example of how far this player can go to prove his talent. The Spring Training, as he puts himself, is an opportunity to project what you have as a player.
"In baseball, you have 5-600 at-bats a year, and you're gonna be the player you're going to be," Schafer said. "When it comes to spring and trying to show the coaching staff what you have, if you think too much into that, you can put too much stress on yourself. I just go out there and simplify the game -- see pitches in the zone and try to put good swings on it."
Choices for the Brewers are indeed too many. Ryan Braun who was facing 50-game suspension a few weeks ago is no longer facing the Sword Damocles. Other players are performing equally well. It is in this set of circumstances that the player has to prove his instrumentality to be part of the Milwaukee Brewers.
