Reports from Feijenoord Stadion confirm that Ron Vlaar has put pen to paper a contract extension that will keep him with Feyenoord Rotterdam until the summer of 2014. The 26-year-old and the De Stadionclub reached an agreement on Tuesday morning.
The central defender is a product of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar’s youth academy and started his career at AZ Stadion in 2004/05 season, even though he never managed to cement his place in the starting eleven. He moved to the Stadiumclub in 2006/07 season and has developed
into a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vitalô-c40903 player in De Stadionclub’s back-line. He has played 72 matches and managed to find the back of the net on six occasions.
Martin van Geel, Feyenoord’s technical director, was pleased after Vlaar signed the contract extension.
“We are delighted that we have agreed with Ron. Vlaar has in recent years developed into a figurehead of the club. He gives a very important signal”, Geel was quoted as saying in the media.
The 26-year-old defender was unable to hide his joy after signing the contract extension. He revealed that he always wanted to play at De Kuip Stadion but wanted to assess all his options before signing a new contract with De Stadionclub.
Vlaar said, “Yes of course I am very happy and relieved. Yesterday was a long and tiring day, so it goes that is what we in contract negotiations, but I am glad it is behind us. The reason it all took so long is because I just thoroughly wanted to weigh
what the best step in my career would be”
“I think everybody has that right, so are the boys with whom Feyenoord still be at the table. All I hope of course that for them a nudge in the right direction”, he added.
The Dutch International believes that his side has a bright future provided they manage to hold on to their star players.
“I definitely see future in this team and Feyenoord. I can here certainly continue to evolve and I’m confident that we will hit the road where Feyenoord belongs”, Vlaar concluded.
Earlier, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leroy-Fer-c22126 has also penned down a contract extension with De Stadionclub. However, an official statement still needs to be dispatched by the club regarding Fer’s contract extension.
