Vlaar finalised his move to Villa Park on Friday and has taken no time in settling in with the squad. The Dutchman had been linked with a move to the English side for a while now, especially after it was learnt that he had travelled to England last month
in order to hold discussions with Villa manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert.
Although the talks hit a snag and Vlaar moved back to Holland to his club http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258, a deal still managed to break through and the player was signed by the club last week.
The player signed a three-year contract, worth to be around £3 million. The 27-year old revealed that he had spoken to many Dutch players before making his move to the Premier League, and said Van Persie was one of the players who had strongly recommended
the Premier League.
Speaking to English newspapers, Vlaar said:
"I talked to Robin and several other players during the Euros. Robin told me if I had the chance then to come over, but it was still my decision and I'm very happy Aston Villa came in for me. I'm happy the deal was done.”
Speaking about Van Persie and his situation with Arsenal, Vlaar said that he wanted his compatriot to stay in the Premier League, as it would be a huge loss for the English game to lose a player of his quality and ability. The defender added that he also
wanted Van Persie to stay because he was looks forward to facing him in the coming season. Talking about the situation, he added:
"I really don't know where he is going. I haven't talked to him lately. I just hope he stays in England so I can face him. I've trained against him with the national team and he is a great player. It would be a big loss if he leaves England."
