The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 Rotterdam defender claims that a move to join the English Premier League side this summer is ‘off for now’ despite earlier stressing that a move to Villa Park will be a ‘dream come true’.
Feyenoord Rotterdam central defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ron-Vlaar-c31697, has confessed that his impending move to Aston Villa seems to be in doubt, and has insisted that he has shifted his focus solely on representing the Rotterdam giants.
The 27-year-old, who arrived at De Kuip Stadion before the start of the 2006/07 season, has long been linked with a move away from the Eredivisie outfit before the ongoing summer transfer window slams shut.
Several European clubs expressed keen interest in luring the Dutch stopper, but Aston Villa remained the favourites in landing his signature this summer, with the central defender along with his agent visiting Villa Park last weekend to finalise personal
terms.
Vlaar and his agent reportedly held talks with the English side head coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert, which went pretty well, and it was highly expected that the Villa would be tabling a bid to sign the defender in the coming days.
However, now it seems like that the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar stopper’s potential move to Villa Park has all but collapsed, with the Dutchman stressing that his chances of joining the English Premier League outfit this summer are few and far between.
“Feyenoord is in my heart and I have been through a lot here. I think the chance I will move to Aston Villa is not so big anymore. I don't want to be kept on a leash, so a transfer is off for now”, the talented central defender was quoted as saying to RTV
Rijnmond.
Vlaar, who has thus far donned the jersey of Feyenoord in well over 100 Eredivisie matches while scoring eight goals along the way, has an ongoing contract at De Kuip Stadion that runs until the end of the 2013/14 season.
Reports indicate that the Rotterdammers management will cash in on their prized asset if an offer in the region of eight million Euros comes in before the start of the 2012/13 season.
