Ron Washington backs Matt Harrison after Texas Rangers lose to Oakland Athletics 2-7 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ Matt Harrison has been struggling as he lasted for only an inning in the 2-7 loss to the Oakland Athletics in his sixth start of the Major League Baseball season.
Harrison is coming off two big defeats against the Los Angeles Angels and the Toronto Blue Jays, the pitcher had the chance to prove himself. Unfortunately he failed miserably. Nevertheless, Texas Rangers’ manager Ron Washington still has faith in his pitcher
and he was less critical of the starter following his weak outing.
The star pitcher went on to concede four runs off six hits in the game and he managed to allow two walks as well. The skipper was not happy about the 2-7 loss against the Oakland Athletics and he did not let that sad effect roll on to his comments about
Harrison. He affirmed that he had no disappointment in the player.
"I'm never disappointed in Matt Harrison," Washington said after the game against the American League West rivals. "He just didn't get it done. He's certainly got to do better and he knows it. It just wasn't there today."
One thing that the coaching staff has noticed recently is a dip in the pitcher’s command and the skipper reiterated those concerns when he took the matter up with the press.
"He just didn't have it again today," Washington said. "Once again, it was command. Giving up base hits ... I have no problem with that. But he just didn't have his command. Matt Harrison threw three good ballgames for us. He's healthy. He'll get the ball
next time. I don't think anybody in this clubhouse feels more badly about not giving us a chance than Matt."
There is no denying the possibility that the next outing for the ball thrower may be his last if he does not pull himself together. Brandon Webb, Tommy Hunter and Scott Feldman are looking good in extended spring training and they may find their way back
to the squad if Harrison gets assigned to Triple-A Round Rock, after his next fixture.
