Ron Washington hopeful about deal with Yu Darvish – MLB News
As the deadline of signing an agreement with Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish is reaching closer, the Texas Rangers’ manager Ron Washington stated on Tuesday, January 17, everything will be decided at the time of the deadline.
There has been a lot of speculation, as people are commenting with considerable confidence, that the Texas Rangers will sign the accomplished pitcher. Nonetheless, the air of uncertainty does also pervade the atmosphere.
Much as there is convergence of both speculation and uncertainty, the Rangers’ manager said the club will try hard to bring him to the fold.
"Tomorrow is the day," manager Ron Washington said at Tuesday's mini-camp for pitchers. "Who knows, maybe something will come down tonight. But if we are able to bring him into the fold, we can start to move forward."
Whether it turns to be rewarding for the Texas Rangers or not is a question which cannot be answered with certainty at this juncture. However, from the very outlook it can be safely said that the Rangers are committed to doing what they can to ensure this
deal.
Darvish, who had a tremendous record in 28 games of having won 18 games last season and losing only six with a 1.44 ERA, has pulled huge media attention in the recent weeks. With the likes of Matt Harrison and Colby Lewis, not to mention Derek Holland, already
in the side, his induction will make the Rangers a more powerful team.
With such seemingly unbeatable pitchers in the fold, who will go to the bullpen is another unaddressed question.
But the team manager says that decision will be made after Spring Training. The adjustment will be made after that.
"That decision is not going to be made now," Washington said. "We're going to go into Spring Training and continue to let the guys who are starters have that opportunity. If at some point in Spring Training we have to make an adjustment, we'll make an adjustment."
Yu Darvish’s arrival has, from what can be seen, is generating fascination in and around the Texas Rangers’ camp. Whether the Rangers succeed in securing the deal or not is something that will be seen on Wednesday.
