Ron Washington praises team as the Texas Rangers defeat Oakland Athletics 8-1 – MLB Update
Manager Ron Washington of the Texas Rangers was a happy man on Sunday, September 11, when his club pummelled the Oakland Athletics 8-1 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The home team picked up a series sweep in style as C. J. Wilson pitched eight shut-out
innings and Adrian Beltre smashed two homers in the game.
Wilson pitched eight innings, picking up just five hits from the A’s hitters and a walk. His dominating presence on the mound was hailed by the manager as he conceded no run and picked up 11 strike-outs in his encounter.
"He's our No. 1 guy," Washington said. "Our No. 1 guy we expect to go out there and do just what he did today."
After pitching a shut-out game against the Tampa Bay Rays in the previous series, this winner came in another extreme fashion from Wilson. The star is currently on a season high, 16 wins and six losses. His ERA is on 3.01.
The A’s Josh Outman however had a bad day on the mound as he pitched 4.2 innings and gave up four runs off eight hits. Ian Kinsler brought the first run home against the hurler when he singled to the right, allowing Craig Gentry, on third base, to run home
with ease.
"We grinded Outman down, and then we finally got to him," Washington said. "[Ian] Kinsler got us on the board, and then the rest of those guys chipped in and did the rest."
Beltre, on the other hand, made a new mark on his career as he walked to 300 homers in his career with two amazing homers in the game. The third baseman, unleashed his might on Outman in the fifth inning when he smashed the ball out of the park and ran home
with Michael Young ahead on the diamond.
The hard hitter came back in the seventh to slam another howler against Andrew Carignan.
"He's a pro, 13 years at it," Washington said. "The good thing about it is when he first came back, he saw pitches. He didn't come in and just start hacking."
The manager seems pleased with the squad and if the club maintains a clean hitting stride for the next few games, there may be no trouble in reaching the playoffs.
