Ron Washington ushers no support for Alexi Ogando’s move to Texas Rangers bullpen
Texas Rangers manager, Ron Washington, is keen to keep his star player where he belongs. While things are firing up in the new Major League Baseball season, the club has been trying to stay on par with expectations from fans.
With Spring Training ending on rotational problems, the team has been gaining a lot of bullpen attention recently. Most relievers have fumbled and that has got many looking at Alexi Ogando.
The fifth man on the rotation roster was the setup man for the Rangers last year and he did a good job keeping things simple in the pen. With relief pitchers losing their fitness and most of the hard work lying on the shoulders of two ball throwers, who
are above the age of 40, things look bad for Ron Washington.
However, the skipper is not concerned about the issue, as he is looking to employ replacement hurlers from Triple-A Round Rock to fill in.
The manager is not looking to add Ogando back into the pen and the reason is clear, as the ball thrower has not a lost a single game yet and his earning runs average in four games has been 2.13.
"I'm not taking him out of the rotation", Washington said.
Rehabilitating pitchers are looking to get fit before June and they will be looking for a spot in the team when they will be on the horizon. Scott Feldman, Tommy Hunter and Brandon Webb are in Arizona working with Rehab Pitching Coordinator Keith Comstock.
"I can't answer that question because they are on rehab and Ogando is pitching great", Washington said. "When they're ready, we'll make a decision, but I'm not taking [Ogando] out of the rotation... I'm not taking him out of the rotation if he continues
to pitch like this.
"I'm not going to rob Peter to pay Paul. Paul has to earn his pay. Ogando is Peter and those guys are Paul".
At the end of the day, Washington does not want his mind focusing on what is to come. His mission is keeping the Rangers in the lead and he needs all the energy he can get.
