The Dutch mentor, who took over the managerial hot seat at De Kuip Stadion in the summer of 2011, guided the Rotterdammers impressively to finish second on the league table in his first season, and earned UEFA Champions League
play-off round ticket.
The 49-year-old tactician, who had successful stints at Ajax Amsterdam, Benfica, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar earlier in his coaching career, admitted that it will be tough playing in the Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
However, the Dutchman also insisted that his side will try their best to go as far as possible in the tournament.
“Champions League will be tough, but we are working towards being ready for the matches. It is very important for the club to get through our first round, so we are assured of the Europa League at least. But we will be going for
the maximum and this is a challenge we will relish. I sense within the group the hunger for more success”, Koeman was quoted as saying to the club’s official website.
The former PSV Eindhoven boss went on to reveal that every player is eager to start the 2012/13 season while adding that everyone is in best of fitness.
“It helps that the group is in excellent physical condition, almost everyone is fit and the new boys are adapting quickly within the team. Everyone is very keen to start the new season”, Koeman added.
Meanwhile, the Dutch trainer, who started his professional coaching career at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vitesse-c40905 Arnhem in the summer of 1999, also took time to express his feelings about La Liga giants, Barcelona.
“At this moment, Barcelona are perfection. The best team in history”, Koeman concluded.
The Rotterdam giants will commence the 2012/13 campaign against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Utrecht-c39237 at Galgenwaard Stadion on August 12.
