The former La Blaugrana player has criticized the style of play adopted by the English Premier League side while playing against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.
Feyenoord’s head coach, Ronald Koeman, is of the opinion that Chelsea’s approach towards the match against the current UEFA Champions League title holders was dismal and poor.
He reiterated that the Blues played out of fear and could have easily lost the first leg of the last four fixture.
Barca and Chelsea locked horns this past Wednesday in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final. The match which took place at the Stamford Bridge saw the visitors humbled to a 1-0 defeat.
Although one can hardly criticize anything about the performance of the Catalan giants, they were unable to find the back of the net. It may be blamed on luck but Chelsea were somehow successful in keeping the Spanish giants out.
Despite the fact that there was only one goal scored throughout the 90 minutes of the game, both teams created a number of valuable chances and Barca were quite wasteful in front of goal. The home team, on the other hand, played quite defensively and created
fewer chances than La Blaugrana.
Koeman pointed this out and maintained that such a mentally does not take a team very far in the Champions League.
The retired veteran voiced his opinion stating that Chelsea’s mind-set will cost them the semi-final and Barcelona will successfully manage to book a place in the final of the European tournament.
While talking to reporters, the 49-year-old was quoted as saying:
"I watched Chelsea defend for 90 minutes and I was appalled they did not try to make something more of the game. I have no admiration for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s approach. And let’s face it, this tie could have been all over by now. Barcelona could easily have won in
London. Let’s hope football will be the winner this week and the team with the best approach goes to the final.”
"It is the moment when a team like Chelsea have the chance to create something and they won’t, which annoys me. As a team, you can’t sit back and wait for Barcelona all the time."
Which of the two teams will qualify for the European showdown in the Allianz Arena next month? Only time will tell.
