Ronald Zubar out for at least one month
Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ronald Zubar will be out of action for at least one month due to necessary ankle surgery.
The 25-year-old right back has been told that he must have an operation to remove an ankle spur after turning his ankle in the club's first pre-season friendly of the summer. He has played only two games
so far this season against Southend United and Newcastle United.
"He's having it done this week, but they had to wait to rest it. It's the best time to do it because we've got two weeks without a game. It's been frustrating for him because he twisted his ankle in the
first friendly," said Wolves manager Mick McCarthy.
This news will be a blow to the club but the team has already coped without Zubar for long spells. The club can now focus on getting the defender fully fit over the next few weeks.
Positives to be taken
There are positives to be taken from this news for Wolves. The club does not have to rush Zubar back because there is plenty of cover in the defence. The team has played virtually the whole season without
Zubar.
The international break allows the player to get the operation out of the way. McCarthy can then take a detailed look at the rehabilitation schedule and form a strong idea of when Zubar is likely to feature
again.
Club officials do not have to run the risk of making Zubar's injury worse by playing him in a game where he is not fit. This would have potentially made the injury much worse and is better avoided.
"It's been a little bit of one thing after another for him. Having said that, Kevin Foley [replacement right-back] has played excellently for us and I think he's been a different class," added the boss.
Betting advice
There is no reason to change betting approaches to Wolves. Zubar will only make the defence stronger once he is fit and fighting again, and in the mean time the team can cope. Wolves looks a very good
bet to stay in the Premier League this season.
