Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in Real Madrid’s 1-3 penalty defeat to Bayern Munich, earning praise from the Special One in the post match conference.
Jose Mourinho did his best not to make Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich look painful, praising compatriot and star player, Cristiano Ronaldo, to take away the sting of losing.
The Special One praised Ronaldo for his efforts and refused to get into the debate of which player has the right claim to be the best player in the world.
However, Mourinho could not resist from making a jibe at the Argentinean as he claimed that Ronaldo has been the better player in the context of 2011/12 season.
"http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 is fantastic. I will not compare him with [Lionel] Messi, we're talking about two great players. I will say this year Cristiano Ronaldo has been better," Mourinho declared.
Los Blancos players failed to make their mark in the penalty shootout but the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan manager only had words of praise for the players. He argued that the act of stepping up to take the penalty is an ample proof of their character.
Mourinho also played down the missed penalties and claimed that it is part and parcel of the game. He pointed towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 to strengthen his argument.
"The ones that miss the shot are the ones that have the balls to shoot. Fearless, not selfish, they go and try. I'm proud of my men.”
"They're super men but Superman is a film. Messi missed yesterday [against Chelsea], and today three men missed because this is football, and these things happen."
"People criticise and question why these errors happen, people that if they climb two floors on ladders are exhausted.”
Jose Mourinho’s charges will have to return their focus to La Liga where they command a 7-point lead in the Primera Division rankings. With four matches remaining until the end of the season, they need 6 more points to claim the Spanish domestic crown.
Real Madrid will entertain Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu for their next La Liga fixture.
