http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 get excluded from the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2012.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 ahead of Rio Ferdinand in the team.
Despite everyone claiming that the manager only picked one of the two due to the personal issues that Terry and Ferdinand have going on, Hodgson claimed that his decision was made on footballing basis alone.
Even though Hodgson has gone on to try and clear the air, it seems like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ronaldo-c31734 isn’t very convinced with Hodgson’s decision and is still wondering why Ferdinand isn’t in the team.
The Real Madrid superstar is reported to have said: “It surprised me a lot. I don’t understand why [Ferdinand was left out].”
“He is still one of the best center-backs in the world. I have to be honest, Rio is a great player, a great man, he should be there.”
“He could help to make a good team for the tournament. But it’s the decision of the coach, and we have to respect it.”
“I haven’t called him yet, but I will do.”
The forward then went on to admit that both Terry and Ferdinand were exceptional defenders, but that he felt Ferdinand was the best centre back that England have.
He then went on to add:
“You can’t compare them [Ferdinand and Terry]. Terry is a fantastic player too, and both should be at national team.”
“Rio especially, because Rio is England’s best centre-back for me.”
Ferdinand and Terry went on to play together when the Portuguese forward was a United player. As a result, he is well aware of the potential and talent that Ferdinand possesses.
Nonetheless, with Hodgson having made his decision on who he wants to play, it seems like Ferdinand might never play for England again.
Given the defender’s age, he might just have one game with which to say good bye to the national team and hence he can now focus solely on his club career.
