Roneeka Hodges leads as San Antonio Silver Stars gun rout Tulsa Shock 93-62 – WNBA Recap
Roneeka Hodges scored a game-high 19 points, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from three-point range to help the San Antonio Silver Stars defeat the Tulsa Shock 93-62 at the BOK Center on Friday night.
Guard Jia Perkins came off the bench with 13 points and four rebounds while forward Sophia Young ended with 12 points and four rebounds in the second consecutive victory for the Silver Stars. Guard Becky Hammon and rookie Danielle
Adams scored 11 points each for the Silver Stars, who had knocked down Tulsa, 93-73, on Saturday night. Hammon also grabbed six assists and shot 5-for-9 from the field.
Centre Liz Cambage once again led Tulsa with 12 points and four rebounds, shooting a perfect 8-for-8 from free throw line. However, the Silver Stars limited her to shot just 2-for-9 from the field.
San Antonio coach Dan Hughes praised the way her team defended Cambage in the game and said, "We attacked her," "I thought we had a very solid game plan for her. It was a team effort defending her. I am glad we have gotten her
twice early in the season. She has such great potential. She's only going to get better."
Forward Kayla Pedersen also came off the bench with 12 points, seven rebounds while Tiffany Jackson, and guard Ivory Latta added 10 points each in the defeat.
Tulsa opened the first quarter with a 6-2 run to take an initial lead but they could not maintain their hold on the game for rest of the period. The Silver Stars turned it on and outplayed the Shock 23-16 after 12 minutes. San
Antonio utterly dominated the entire second quarter and widened their lead to 48-28 at halftime on the back of a terrific team effort.
Shock could not find their rhythm in the third quarter and continued to play sloppy basketball. The Silver Stars, on the other hand, kept playing with intensity and stretched their lead to 77-44, heading into the fourth.
Trailing by 33 points, Tulsa reeled off a 6-0 burst early on in the fourth period. The Silver Stars however continued to play aggressively down the stretch and walked away with a huge 93-62 victory.
Hughes expressed her joy after the game by saying, "We knew we would be a pretty good 3-point shooting team." "We got very good energy out of our bench. Tulsa came out and really attacked us.” “We stabilized but the difference
was our bench. They just gave us great energy.”
