Rong Fan wins Women’s 200m breast-stroke heat: 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Day one of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series ended with scintillating swims of Rong Fan and Kristian Kron in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Friday, October 7. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 200m breast-stroke and Men’s 200m back-stroke
heats.
China’s Rong Fan raised the expectations of her fans by winning the Women’s 200m breast-stroke heat against her strongest competitors, China’s Yuele Wu and Slovakia’s Tanja Smid. Fan completed her distance with an astonishing mark of 2 minutes and 27.12
seconds. Meanwhile, the second and third positions went to Wu and Smid with a mark of 2:29.63 minutes and 2:32.81 minutes, respectively.
In the corresponding meet, China’s Xiaoyu Liu posted an impressive time of 2 minutes and 34.18 seconds to settle fourth. Meanwhile, Barbora Zavadova of Czech Republic earned fifth position with a mark of 2 minutes and 34.57 seconds and United Arab Emirates’
Hannah Taleb got sixth position with a time of 2 minutes and 49.73 seconds. Pakistan’s Lianna Swan earned eighth position with a reasonable time of 2 minutes and 50.37 seconds.
Kristian Kron of Sweden thrashed out both Brazil’s Nelson Silva Junior and South Africa’s Chad Le Clos by powering the finishing wall with a nerve-wrecking mark of 2 minutes and 06.89 seconds to win the Men’s 200m back-stroke heat. The second and third positions
went to Le Clos and Silva Junior with a mark of 2:07.42 minutes and 2:16.03 minutes, respectively. In the equivalent race, United Arab Emirates’ Simon Chivers, India’s Babu Pranam and United Arab Emirates’ Alistair Allan earned fourth, fifth and sixth positions
with a mark of 2:16.48 minutes, 2:17.18 minutes and 2:17.80 minutes, respectively.
Meanwhile, Kayan Bharucha of United Arab Emirates was placed seventh in a time of 2 minutes and 25.60 seconds, whereas, Eissa Ibrahim Al Hammadi wound up eighth in a time of 2 minutes and 29.22 seconds. Hussain Allanjawi of Qatar finished ninth with a mark
of 2 minutes and 29.34 seconds, while Faraj Farhan of Brunei earned tenth position with a mark of 2 minutes and 40.39 seconds.  Last, but not the least, Brunei’s Abdullah Althuwaini settled for eleventh spot with a mark of 2 minutes and 51.25 seconds.
The swims of all the athletes captured the attention of the arena and the winning contestants qualified for the finals. The 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series is a fascinating occasion for swimmers, as it offers a great opportunity to all young guns to
prepare themselves hard for their futuristic meets.
