Rong Fan wins Women’s 200m breast-stroke title: Day two – 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
China’s Rong Fan impressed the arena owing to her thrashing swim on day two of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Saturday, October 8. The event is a FINA/ARENA World Cup series meet which is divided into seven stages, where
the first leg is constituted in Dubai. The evening session conducted the Women’s 200m breast-stroke final heat.
Fan powered the finishing wall with a record-breaking time of 2 minutes and 22.58 seconds and won the Women’s 200m breast-stroke title on the podium comprehensively. Rong Fan’s competitors and arch rival, Xiaoyu Liu of China gave her best attempt and captured
silver medal by posting a winning time of 2 minutes and 23.69 seconds. Moreover, China’s Yuele Wu picked bronze title by submitting an impressive time of 2 minutes and 23.91 seconds.
In the meantime, Caroline Ruhnau of Germany put forward her intriguing performance and earned fourth spot in the respective meet with a matchless mark of 2 minutes and 29.09 seconds. In addition, Barbora Zavadova of Czech Republic settled for fifth position
in a time of 2 minutes and 31.90 seconds. Tanja Smid of Slovakia hit the finishing wall in 2 minutes and 35.58 seconds to finish sixth.
In the corresponding race, Lianna Swan of Pakistan earned seventh place honours in the respective meet after touching the finishing wall to finish her race with a mark of 2 minutes and 51.13 seconds. Furthermore, Hannah Taleb of United Arab Emirates settled
for eighth spot in a time of 2 minutes and 51.47 seconds.
Earlier, Hungary’s Krisztian Takacs and Kenya’s Jason Dunford clinched the Men’s 50m freestyle by posting an identical time of 21.78 seconds. In the corresponding race, Ukraine’s Andrii Govorov settled for bronze medal on the podium in a time of 21.93 seconds.
Spectators appreciated the efforts of all swimmers and the top three winners of the meets were awarded medals and cash prizes after the session’s completion. The next round of the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup series is scheduled to take place in Stockholm,
Sweden, from October 15-16.
