Ronnie Brewer undergoes surgery on left knee, will be back for the start of the season – NBA News
The New York Knicks recently announced that newly acquired shooting guard Ronnie Brewer has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, making him unavailable for the next six weeks.
The Knicks orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Answorth Allen, performed the procedure on Brewer on Friday. Brewer, who is said to have suffered the injury sometime over the last two weeks, was told that the injury was due to wear and tear
over a prolonged period of time rather than one incident.
“If y'all haven't already heard I had successful meniscus surgery. Started rehab this morning. Minor setback for a major comeback. I appreciate the prayers and get well soons from everyone. Much appreciated. Will for sure be 100
(percent) for season opener,” said Brewer on his twitter account following the surgery.
Brewer was a part of the infamous Chicago Bulls “bench mob” last season, which helped the Bulls clinch the top seed in the Eastern Conference for a second year in a row. However, he was let go by the Bulls franchise at the end
of the season, and found a new home in New York as a member of the Knicks roster.
Brewer is known for his defensive abilities, and will be beneficial for a Knicks team who have a great deal of work to do on the defensive end if they want to climb the ladder in the Eastern Conference.
The Knicks struggled with injuries much of last season, with Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire, Baron Davis and Jeremy Lin all suffering injuries and missing games at some point in the season. Lin did not return for the playoffs
and was signed by the Houston Rockets in free agency over the summer. Shooting guard and defensive specialist Iman Shumpert is still recovering from an ACL injury that he suffered during the playoffs last season.
In such circumstances, Brewer and Knicks backup guard J.R. Smith are likely to play most of the minutes at the start of the season. Brewer may take some time to return to his old self after the surgery, which might give Smith the
opportunity to start the game and prove his talent on the court.
