Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Williams in a potential second round clash: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Williams are likely to clash in the second round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
Reaching the semi-final clash of the 2012 Welsh Open snooker tournament saved England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan from tumbling down the World Top 16.
Due to his consistent performance in the second half of 2011-12 Snooker Season, the Rocket was able to qualify for 2012 World Snooker Championship where he is in line of a potential second round clash against the Welsh Potting Machine, Mark Williams.
The Wordsley potter started the 2011-12 Snooker Season with world rank number 11. He slipped down in the first half of the season and was at the brink of dropping down from Top 16 but the Essex Exocet gathered himself and bounced back into the game from
the start of the year 2012. He played impressively in the 2012 German Masters and clinched the title beating Stephen Maguire 9-7.
He failed to perform after that and came down in rankings and at the time he entered the 2012 Welsh Open, he was World Number 16. Had he not made it to the semi-final stage of Welsh Open, he would have crashed out of the top 16 but luckily he saved his Crucible
seat and now he has set up a potential second round clash of 2012 World Snooker Championship against Mark Williams.
Wales’ Mark Williams, on the other hand, performed convincingly and remained constant in his rankings. Williams will also be looking forward to his clash against O’Sullivan. During the last couple of events, Williams was not able to perform according to
the standards and failed to improvise but he is aiming to change that image at the Crucible.
Both O’Sullivan and Williams have played each other a couple of times in the current season. In all matches, O’Sullivan has been victorious over the Welsh Wonder. Their potential World Championship clash will be a real thriller because of the importance
of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn, announced the draw and format for the upcoming World Snooker Championship on Friday, February 24. The 2012 World Snooker Championship is going to start on April 17 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield where
all top potters including former champions will test their lucks again.
