Ronnie O’Sullivan asks sports psychiatrist to save career
Ronnie O’Sullivan will consult a sports psychiatrist to rescue his game. A few days back, right after losing in the first round of the Bank of Beijing China Open 2011, the ‘Rocket’ Ronnie O’Sullivan, gave another hint of retirement from the game of snooker,
which definitely hurt many snooker fans.
There were also reports about his withdrawal from the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship 2011 but those reports were based on his verbal comments that he made last week.
However, it would be good news for all Ronnie O’Sullivan fans that he has rethought his decision and is seeking help from one of the best sports psychiatrists to regain his rhythm.
The 35-year old Ronnie did not follow through with his verbal announcement he made about his withdrawal from the world championship.
Instead, he will meet the sports psychiatrist, Dr. Steve Peters, to clinch his form back. Dr. Steve Peters was the man who helped the Great Britain Olympic cycling team to grab eight gold medals in Beijing three years ago.
The former world number one said about Dr. Peters, “I am about to go and see the man who worked with the GB Olympic cycling team later this week. He has a very good reputation”.
He said about his performance that his problem was not that he couldn’t get over the winning line or he didn’t believe he was good enough. He can win if he plays well.
Three-time world snooker champion could not bring his form up to his standards in the current season, as he missed 12 events due to medical, or, personal reasons during his campaign. He faced a series of first-round exits from the major ranking events including
a couple of withdrawals, which not only brought him down to number 10 but also at the brink of making such a hard decision of retirement.
A week before, he hinted his retirement and informed World Snooker about his decision telephonically that he was pulling out of the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship.
However, when he was asked to submit his decision in written form to confirm his retirement and was given a week to think over it, the Essex Exocet, made a dramatic U-turn and reconsidered his decision.
On the other hand, the World Snooker chairman, Barry Hearn, has been criticising the Englishman’s decision saying that the man has lost his love for the game and if he doesn’t feel good about that, he should quit because the world needs the real Ronnie O’Sullivan.
The world of snooker wants Ronnie O’Sullivan on the table because if he misses the game, there will be a huge vacuum that nobody can fill. The Rocket will meet the Welshman Dominic Dale in his first match at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
