Ronnie O’Sullivan beats Ali Carter 3-1 to move to top of Premier League table – Snooker news
Ronnie ‘the Rocket’ O’Sullivan now stands two points clear at the top of the Premier League table after he defeated the Captain, Ali Carter, by a frame score of 3-1 in a best-of-five frames final match on September 29, 2011.
It was an old-fashioned game as there were no reasonable breaks. However, O’Sullivan did just enough to register an impressive win over his opponent.
The opening frame saw both players missing many chances but in the end, it was the Essex player Ali Carter who appeared on top to draw the first blood 1-0.
The following second frame was also dominated by safety before O’Sullivan forced a chance from his opponent to level the score-line at 1-1 with a run of 37. O’Sullivan then took the third frame with a modest break of 59 to go in front at 2-1.
The fourth frame was dramatic affair, as Carter repeatedly missed a long red before he fell afoul of the ‘three strikes and you are out’ rule.
A delighted O’Sullivan, who has won a tournament after a long time, shared his feelings with the media. He stated he is on a decline in his career so any win gives him a lot of pleasure. O’Sullivan also admitted he was struggling throughout the match and
got lucky somehow.
“I was on the back foot the whole game,” he told Sky Sports. “Ali had me in trouble and I was trying to stay in the game. I was always a shot behind, just trying to contain and hope for a chance...I was struggling to stay with him because he was bossing
me about.”
He said, “I'm well down the rankings, I'm 13 in the world and any match where I get a win, I'm going to enjoy it because I'm on a decline whether I like it or not, so I might as well enjoy it and have a bit of fun. And if I get a result, then happy days!”
