Ronnie O’Sullivan beats Ding Junhui 7-1 in final to win 10th PLS title – Snooker news
Ronnie ‘the Rocket’ O’Sullivan has won the 2011 Premier Snooker League by beating the Chinese Sensation, Ding Junhui, with a 7-1 frame score in their best-of-thirteen frames final match yesterday night at the Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton-on-Sea in England.
It was yet another magnificent performance from the world number 11, O’Sullivan, as he showcased magnificent breaks to lift his 10th Premier Snooker League title.
The overall score-line between both players was 68-31 (Ding 31, O’Sullivan 52), 96-16 (O’Sullivan 92), 80-24 (O’Sullivan 56), 57-43 (Ding 42), 33-70 (Ding 48), 79-52 (O’Sullivan 31 & 48, Ding 36), 63-61 (Ding 60, O’Sullivan 63) and 77-0 (O’Sullivan 77).
In the opening frame, Ding was the first one to be among the balls but he lost control of his emotions breaking down on 31 and when the chance presented itself, O’Sullivan slotted a marvellous break of 52 to draw the first blood 1-0. O’Sullivan also took
the following three frames in a row to further extend his lead at 4-0 and in the meantime, he enjoyed classy breaks of 92 and 56 in the second and third frames respectively.
The fifth frame was relatively a much slower one. Both players had a bout of safety play among them but this time it was the Chinese professional who appeared on top with a dominant break of 48 to reduce the deficit at 4-1.
It looked as if Ding, who is famously known for making great comebacks, will now put on a fight but it proved wrong when he blew another golden opportunity in the sixth frame. O’Sullivan quickly stepped in and restored his four-frame lead at 5-1 with breaks
of 31 and 48.
The seventh frame was the most exciting one. Ding was on the verge of winning it before he went out of position after knocking in a break of 60 points. The Englishman on the other hand showed great temperament and cleared the table with a carving break of
67.
Ding did not get any chance in the last frame since O’Sullivan knocked in a break of 77 to finish the matters off in style.
