Ronnie O’Sullivan beats Shaun Murphy 3-1 in the final – 2011 Premier League Snooker
The Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan, has won the Event 10 in the 2011 Premier League Snooker Tournament as he defeated former 2005 world champion, Shaun Murphy, by a frame score of 3-1 in their best-of-five frame final match.
This event was staged at the Grimsby Auditorium in Grimsby, England.
It was an accomplishing performance from the for the former three-time world champion, O’Sullivan, as he held his nerves to secure an impressive win over his dangerous opponent. Murphy, who previously whitewashed Judd Trump in the semi-finals, on the other
hand failed to produce his best.
The overall score-line between both players was 82-16 (O’Sullivan 82), 78-35 (O’Sullivan 78, Murphy 35), 0-83 (Murphy 52, 31) and 100-40 (O’Sullivan 100, Murphy 40).
In the opening frame, a few chances were exchanged before O’Sullivan fired in a classy break of 82 to clinch the opener 1-0. Murphy had a frame winning chance in the following second frame but he failed after rolling in 35 points and was punished from his
opponent who further extended his lead by 2-0 with a carving break of 78.
Thought Murphy responded in the third frame with a couple of quick fires 52 and 31, to come within one frame at 2-1, he lost the fourth again.
Murphy was the first one to be among the balls in the fourth and he was looking pretty good before he lost control of his emotions breaking down on 40 and when the chance presented itself, O’Sullivan knocked in a magnificent break of 100 to finish the matters
off in style.
O’Sullivan has now gone into the play-offs where he will be face former two-time world champion, Mark Williams. The delighted played also shared his feelings with the media afterwards.
“It’s always nice to reach the play-offs and I seem to have a good track record in them over the years,” said O’Sullivan.
“Mark is a tough player of course and he is back at the top of his game so nothing will be easy at Potters. I’m playing well though and enjoying my snooker so I’m looking forward to it,” he added.
