Ronnie O’Sullivan criticises Mark Selby’s playing style: 2012 Welsh Open at Newport Centre
Another verbal brawl has started again between the World Number one, Mark Selby and the Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan as both potters are looking forward to face each other in the semi-final encounter of 2012 Welsh Open.
The 2011 German Masters champion reckons that Selby’s playing style is painful and he does not want to play him in the semis.
Speaking to the local media after his victory at the Newport Centre, O’Sullivan said, “I really don’t want to play Selby ... I watched his earlier match, it was painful.”
Former three-time World Snooker Champion, England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan reached the semi-final clash after the Englishman put up a marvellous show at the Newport Centre arena in Newport, Wales. The Rocket was up against the 2011 UK Championship winner, compatriot
Judd Trump, in the quarter-final of 2012 Welsh Open and managed to beat the youngster easily by the score line of 5-3.
Selby, on the other hand, was impressive against Scotland’s Stephen Maguire in the third quarter-final. The Jester from Leicester played brilliantly in the match and was able to oust the Scotsman by the scores of 5-3 and reached the semi-final clash against
O’Sullivan. However, the 28-year-old Selby felt insulted by the Rocket’s remarks.
The Leicester potter said, “Hopefully I am in his head and I’ll slow it down even more. My game obviously doesn’t suit him, not everyone is as natural as him and that is the way I will continue to play. I’d rather eat broken glass than talk to him. He has
never apologised all the other times he’s slagged me off.”
Both potters are now ready to face each other in the semi-final clash. They were against each other previously in the final of 2008 Welsh Open where Selby defeated the Wordsley potter by the score line of 9-8. Both players have played each other many times
and O’Sullivan clinched most of the victories against Selby.
The pair has been on top of their form in the 2012 Welsh Open as they played according to their standards during the event. O’Sullivan was aiming to save his top 16 place while Selby had his World Number one spot in his mind and wanted to save his rank.
The semi-final clash will surely be a thriller to watch.
