Ronnie O’Sullivan decides to stay out of snooker for a while – Snooker News
Four-time World Snooker Championship winner, England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan played brilliantly in the previous season and was able to claim his four World title. The Englishman had a tremendous run winning two Players Tour Championship (PTC) events and two
Premier League Snooker (PLS) events. Clinching the 2012 German Masters snooker event was another success for the Englishman.
However, the Wordsley Potter did not like the new format of the season because the snooker governing body, World Snooker, increased the number of tournaments. After the 2012 World Snooker Championship, O’Sullivan stated that he will not take part in all
major ranking snooker tournaments which was not welcomed by World Snooker.
Recently the Essex Exocet repeated his statement saying that he will stay out of snooker for a while having a four to six month break. The Rocket has not signed the new contract with the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) which
is not liked by the World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn.
Speaking to the Grove Leisure, the Magician said, “I have decided not to enter any tournaments for the time being, including this year's Premier League and forthcoming WPBSA ranking events. I have not signed the player's contract as I feel the contract is
too onerous and am in a stage of my career where I don't wish to make this commitment.”
The 36-year-old added, “I still want to play snooker and visit those places around the world such as China where snooker is enthusiastically received and adored.”
Last season, the Englishman suffered from glandular fever from the start of the second half of the 2011-12 Snooker Season. He played the 2012 German Masters snooker tournament with glandular fever and after that he had to quit the 2012 Haikou World Open
and the 2011-12 PTC Grand Finals as per his doctor’s advice.
World Snooker boss Barry Hearn added a couple of new events in the recent snooker season which does not give the players some break when the season commences. Many snooker players, like John Higgins, also did not like the new format of the new circuit. According
to the new format, the players will have a break only in Christmas and in the first month of the season.
