Ronnie O’Sullivan enters quarter-final stage after beating Joe Perry in Round 2: 2012 German Masters
A superb snooker display from the former three-time World Snooker Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan took him into the quarter-final stage of 2012 German Masters at the Tempodrom arena in Berlin. The Essex Exocet defeated compatriot Joe Perry 5-1, who hammered the
former World Snooker Champion runner-up Ali Carter in the first round.
The Rocket was outstanding at the baize from the start and he completely unnerved Perry with his snooker genius. The Fen Potter, Perry, was able to triumph over O’Sullivan in only one frame. The Wordsley cueman O’Sullivan had a struggling start in the event
as he was pushed towards an upset defeat by Andrew Higginson in Round 1. The former UK Championship winner then bounced back well into the game and secured the win by taking five consecutive frames.
In his second-round game, the 36-year-old O’Sullivan looked focused and determined. He showed his resilience during the clash and fired some extraordinary O’Sullivan-style furious shots to compile a stunning score line with some impressive knocks of 110,
74, 69, 123 and 57 to finish the game in just 64 minutes.
The World Number 16 spoke to the World Snooker after his victory over Perry, “Joe is a tough opponent and didn't make it easy for me. I needed to score well. I'm pleased with the way I played.”
O'Sullivan has now booked his quarter-final place at the Tempodrom arena against Wales’ Matthew Stevens, who trashed the 2012 BGC Masters snooker tournament champion, Australia’s Neil Robertson in his second-round match by the score line of 5-1 after firing
some outstanding breaks of 86, 58, 89 and 69.
The Welshman, on the other hand said, “Neil is the man in form and gets to the latter stages of most events so it's got to be my best result of the season. He missed a couple of balls that he wouldn't normally miss, and I punished him. In my first match
against Craig Steadman I just wanted to win because I was under pressure to make sure of my top 16 place. Today I played and scored better.”
Speaking about his quarter-final opponent, Stevens said that O’Sullivan is looking awesome in the current tournament and he surely is a strong competitor.
