Ronnie O’Sullivan hails Luca Brecel for his snooker genius: 2012 World Snooker Championship
For the second time in the history of the Crucible Theatre, a 17-year-old, Belgian Luca Brecel will be making his debut playing in the 2012 World Snooker Championship. The youngster will break the record of the former seven-time World Snooker Championship
winner, Stephen Hendry. The critics are predicting best results from the youngster who came through to the first round after winning four qualifying matches.
Meanwhile, the former three-time World Snooker Champion, England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan, who is also considered the most naturally talented snooker player, has hailed the young potter Brecel and has wished him luck in his future. The legendary potter believes
the youngster has a bright future in the sport because he is quite talented and hardworking.
While speaking to the media, O’Sullivan said, “Luca can be a game-changer for snooker, when you take into account how good he is, how old he is, and also where he is from. The sport needs a superstar from Belgium, or anywhere in Europe where it is becoming
so popular.”
The Wordsley potter added, “He is a very, very talented boy and although it is all huge potential right now, you can see he is learning quickly. He has done brilliantly to get to the Crucible. He won four matches and to beat Mark King shows he has something
about him. It was a fantastic win.”
Brecel had a superb run in the qualifying session as he played brilliantly in the qualifiers to book his place in the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. He opened his account after beating the Englishman Ian McCulloch by the score line
of 10-2. After that he continued his winning run against Barry Pinches 10-3, Michael Holt by 10-9 and in the final qualifier against England’s Mark King by 10-9.
The young cueman might become a real threat for the top guns of the game as he seems to be on song for the 2012 World Snooker Championship. O’Sullivan is also predicting that the young Belgian will be a superb potter in the future as his playing style is
no way like an amateur. Beating potters like Mark King, Michael Holt and Barry Pinches does show that Brecel’s upcoming days are bright.
