Ronnie O’Sullivan hails Stephen Maguire after winning 2012 German Masters event at Tempodrom
England’s Ronnie O’Sullivan kicked back in the 2012 German Masters snooker tournament after the Englishman made a superb comeback against Scotsman, Stephen Maguire to lift the title of the event. Despite winning the final encounter of 2012 German Masters,
O’Sullivan hails his opponent due to the Scotsman’s impressive potting skills.
Wordsley’s O’Sullivan was struggling with glandular fever he caught a couple of months ago but the Essex potter did not let the problem get in his way during the campaign.
The 36-year-old put up a scintillating show throughout the tournament against each of his competitors in the line-up. With his thrilling and furious game style, he not only surprised his opponents but the audience at the arena or in front of the TV as well.
He flashed back into the contest in throttling fashion whenever he was at the edge of a brutal defeat and stunned spectators to prove that he still possesses the spark in his cue stick.
The former World Number one was shadowing Maguire three frames down at 3-6 when he played an action-punctuated game and made his way up to 8-6, clinching five impressive frame wins.
O'Sullivan, while speaking about Maguire said, “All credit to Stephen, because he's had a great tournament. He's played really well and is playing as well now as when he first came on the scene and I tipped him to be the dominant player of the decade. He
outplayed me today; I hung in there and nicked frames.”
The Livewire, Maguire, shot three consecutive cracking century knocks during his final run in the tournament at the Tempodrom to grab a 5-3 lead. The 30-year-old Scot gave a hard time to the former three-time World Snooker Champion and almost threw him out
of the tournament with his classy game.
The 2012 German Masters title is O’Sullivan’s first major title in the past three seasons and this victory for the Essex Exocet will play a crucial role in bringing back the glory O’Sullivan lost somewhere in the past two or three years.
