Ronnie O’Sullivan is not after money – Snooker Update
Four-time World Snooker Championship winner from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan is in a tussle with the snooker governing body, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) regarding his refusal to sign the new season contract.
O’Sullivan declined signing the new contract saying that he will play in selective snooker events only because he needs some time to spend with his family and friends.
Quite recently the Englishman expressed his desire of playing in the recent season. He stated that he will take part in the 2012 Shanghai Masters snooker tournament but as a Wild Card holder. The WPBSA then explained that the Wild Card award solely depends
upon the will of the host country, the WPBSA and the promoter of the tournament.
The Essex Exocet reckoned that he is not the only one to oppose the increase in the number of snooker events in the calendar. The former four-time World Snooker Championship winner, Scotland’s John Higgins and the former two-time World Snooker Championship
runner-up Ali Carter also think the same way. The Rocket added that whatever he did was not for making more money because he was never after money.
While speaking to the local media, O’Sullivan said, “It’s basically not about money at all. People don’t know the facts. I just want to turn up and play snooker. My appetite is back, I could have eight years left. If it was only about money I wouldn’t play.
The money isn’t so great in snooker and I have some banked away.”
The 36-year-old added, “I feel I am used more than other players and dictated to, threatened and fined. I believe others feel the same, but I’ve had the balls to say it.”
However, the Wordsley potter must take part in the new snooker season no matter what because his fans are missing him. The WPBSA has clarified that he can play any event in the season but on only one condition that he must sign the contract with World Snooker.
It will be interesting to see what Ronnie decides to do as he is a definite crowd-puller to many snooker tournaments and the fans usually line up to see his dynamic playing style.
