Ronnie O’Sullivan leads Dominic Dale, 7-2 – 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship
The Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan, is leading the Spaceman, Dominic Dale, by a frame score of 7-2 in the first round of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, which is being held at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England.
It was a clobbering performance by the three-time world champion, O’Sullivan, in the first session, as he fired up a magnificent century break of 113 in the eighth frame to bring his 100th century at the Crucible Theatre. Ronnie O’Sullivan also
attempted two 147 breaks in the meanwhile, but unfortunately he missed them.
Ronnie potted eight reds in the second frame and all of them were with the blacks. However, after he dropped in the ninth red he lost position for the black. He again did twelve reds with twelve blacks in the seventh frame before he went out of the position.
He attempted a red, lying over the centre, into the last pocket to come for the black again, but it bubbled on the jaws of the pocket and there was a huge roar from the crowd.
O’Sullivan, who has been a part of many controversies, ten days back, said to the World Snooker that he is going to pull himself out of this year’s Betfred.com World Snooker Championship. However he reversed his decision when the World Snooker Association
gave him a week’s time to re-think.
The chairman of the Matchroom Sport, Barry Hearn, was also delighted by the impressive performance of the thirty-five-year-old.
"I love the boy to death," Hearn said. "He's a fabulous snooker player. Rather than people say to me, 'Do you have a problem with Ronnie O'Sullivan?’ I wish I had 10 Ronnie O'Sullivans."
Meanwhile the world number ten, O’Sullivan, has missed various tournaments this season and moreover he has also suffered first round defeats in all of the last four ranking tournaments. Due to all these reasons he fell down to number ten in the world rankings.
Ronnie O’Sullivan has proved his importance and worth to the Crucible once again. He has indirectly answered everyone why is he still needed in the game. O’Sullivan, who is a genius around the table, will start with the second session in a while and now
he just needs two more frames to secure his place in the second round.
