Ronnie O’Sullivan playing in 2012 China Open without doctor’s consent – Snooker News
Word Number 15 from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan has had a great season so far and has grabbed a couple of noticeable titles including a couple of Players Tour Championships (PTC), two Premier League Events and the 2012 German Masters snooker tournaments.
However, after the German Masters, the veteran did reach the quarter-finals of the 2012 Welsh Open but lost the game and crashed out of the event.
After the Welsh open snooker tournament, the Rocket revealed that he was suffering from glandular fever during the German Masters and the Welsh Open but he did not take rest despite the doctor’s prescription. He was even on his way to take part in the 2012
Haikou World Open but pulled out just a day before the event started because of his illness.
The Rocket failed to show up in the PTC Grand Finals and withdrew from the event because he was not fit to play in any game. There were rumours that he might not participate in the 2012 China Open because his doctor has asked him to take complete rest. Even
there were speculations that he might have to quit the game because of the illness but he came back into the game and played in the 2012 China Open.
He has now successfully moved into the second round of the tournament after beating the 39-year-old Scotsman, Marcus Campbell by a close score line of 5-4 in the first round of the tournament at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium arena. O’Sullivan
said to World Snooker that he is playing in the Chinese event without his doctor’s permission.
Speaking to World Snooker after his match, O’Sullivan said, “My doctor has told me not to play. He's told me to take a long break so I'm probably playing against doctor's orders. It's hard if you keep missing tournaments. I just decided to take a risk and
see how I feel when I came out here. Also the Chinese fans have been superb to me over the years so it's nice to come and see them and perform for them.”
O’Sullivan will next face the former double World Snooker Champion from Wales, Mark Williams in the second round of the tournament.
