Day three of the snooker world championship at The Crucible.
Ronnie O'Sullivan ready to make his bow on day three
Ronnie O'Sullivan will take to the green baize, as well as Mark Williams and six-time world champion Steve Davis.
Ronnie O’Sullivan v Liang Wenbo
On paper this would seem a formality for The Rocket. However, O’Sullivan has had an average season thus far. He won the Shanghai Masters at the start of the season, and lost in a dramatic final to Mark Selby at The Masters. Ronnie O’Sullivan has been outshone by John Higgins this season, and has not lifted the world crown since 2008. He has a lot to prove, but if anyone is capable of blistering his way to another Crucible crown it’s O’Sullivan. Liang Wenbo is a player who, like, Cope, is too attack-minded. He came close to winning his maiden ranking title, but lost to O’Sullivan at the Shanghai Masters. This match will be a good contest to watch, but you have to go with O’Sullivan on the day to produce.
Prediction: O’Sullivan 10-7 Wenbo
Mark King v Steve Davis
Steve Davis will be making a record 30th appearance at The Crucible this year, and has won the title six-times. Mark King has been enjoying his best run in the top 16 over the past three seasons. This game looks like it will be settled by a few frames. Both players will feel that a win is there for either of them if they produce their best. The Sheffield faithful will want Davis to do well.
Prediction: King 8-10 Davis
Mark Williams v Marcus Campbell
Mark Williams ended four years without a trophy by winning the recent China Open in fine style, beating home favourite Ding Junhui 10-6. Williams has been back to his best this season, with semi-final appearances at The Masters and the Grand Prix, and a quarter-final appearance at his home tournament, the Welsh Open. Marcus Campbell should not prove to be too difficult for Williams. Williams is the form player, and will comfortably win the match.
Prediction: Williams 10-3 Campbell
