Ronnie O’Sullivan says 'Legends' should be given a Crucible Pass
Three-time world champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan, has said that the World Snooker chiefs should make changes for the Legends like ‘Stephen Hendry’, ‘Steve Davis’, ‘Jimmy White’ and others.
He said even if they fail to qualify for the world championship, they should be given wild cards.
The King of Crucible, Stephen Hendry, has won seven world titles and 36 ranking events, apart from many non-ranking events. Moreover he also joint-holds a record with Ronnie O’Sullivan
of compiling 10 maximum 147 breaks in a professional competition and for all these achievement he has earned himself a prize money of GBP8.8 million and with it a label of 'the greatest snooker player of all times.'
However, after being trashed by a frame score of 13-4 in the second round by the world number three, Mark Selby, he has hinted retirement. He said he is will decide in summer.
It was a record performance from the 27-year-old Englishman, Selby, as he produced six century breaks in a single best-of-25 frames match of the World Championship. For the Scottish legend,
however, it was a new feeling for being on the wrong side of the record.
On the same note six-time world champion, Steve Davis, and six-time world championship finalist, Jimmy White, both failed in the qualifying rounds for this year’s 2011 Betfred.com World
Snooker Championship. This was a huge disappointment for the fans.
The thirty-five-years-old said, "Wimbledon does it”.
Ronnie further added, "They invited back Goran Ivanisevic and what a fantastic storyline that was (when the Croatian won the 2001 title). He
wouldn't have even been in the tournament. He's a class act and he can do it on his day. So I honestly
believe if Wimbledon can do it, why can't the World Championship do it? Hendry's a legend, (Steve) Davis is a legend, Jimmy White is a legend, I'm sure there's room for them in the
tournament. It certainly wouldn't take anything away from the tournament.
The Rocket, O’Sullivan, believes the players with extra-ordinary records should be kept in the game no matter what. Let’s see if O’Sullivan’s thoughts are looked upon by the management.
