Ronnie O’Sullivan seems unhappy with new snooker calendar – Snooker News
Former three-time World Snooker Champion from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan suffered from glandular fever during his season run. He played the 2012 German Masters and clinched the title despite his illness after beating the Scotsman Stephen Maguire by the score
line of 9-7 in the final. O’Sullivan revealed about his illness after he clinched the German Masters title.
Before he could rest a bit and get himself ready for the game, the 2012 Haikou World Open snooker tournament began and he had to pull out of the event because when he was coming to take part, he felt the after effects of the illness and his doctor advised
him to take complete rest and stay away from the game for a while.
Due to a busy schedule, the top guns of snooker cannot spare time for other things in their lives like family, health issues and recreation. World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn has added so many new snooker events in the calendar. Before he joined World
Snooker, there were only six major events but now there are more than 30 and many are still to be launched this season.
Recently Hearn has added three more events in the Players Tour Championship (PTC). The Wuxi Classic, which was an invitational non-ranking snooker event, has been given the status of a major ranking tournament which will feature the top dogs of snooker.
Another major ranking event by the title of International Snooker Championship, will be a part of the calendar next year.
With so many snooker tournaments around, the players hardly get time for themselves. The only leisure time they usually get is either after the finish of the World Snooker Championship or in the Christmas holidays. O’Sullivan believes that the players should
be given enough time to spend some time with their family and friends. He also vows that he will snatch some spare time no matter what happens to him.
Speaking to the media, O’Sullivan said, After a Premier League evening, “I went to an event in Sheffield. I knew I had to go but felt terrible after a run of travelling and late nights. When I got back, my mum looked after me for three days. I slept and
went to the UK Championship and played all right after a week's rest.”
He added, “I asked for a week off but I just got a letter and a fine. That really made me angry. There have been times where I have pulled out of tournaments because I haven't wanted to go. But now there is a genuine health reason.”
Meanwhile, the Rocket is battling against the Welshman Matthew Stevens in the semi-finals for a spot in the final encounter of the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
