Ronnie O’Sullivan sets up Ali Carter final beating Matthew Stevens: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Former three-time World Snooker Champion from England, Ronnie O’Sullivan displayed a classy show at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield against the Welshman Matthew Stevens in the semi-final encounter and breezed his way into the final clash of the 2012 World
Snooker Championship against the former World Snooker Championship runner up, compatriot Ali Carter.
The Rocket clinched a strong position in the beginning of the penultimate game and pushed his opponent under immense pressure. Stevens had no chance to get back into the game and tumbled down in the clash despite his impressive performance in the second
session of the semi-final. With a scintillating display, O’Sullivan was able to win the game by the score line of 17-10.
The first session of the semi-final game was dominated by the Essex Exocet as he stormed into the match lead. The Welsh Dragon bounced back into the match in the second session and moved up at 15-9. The Magician, O’Sullivan, had no pressure at all and kept
his routine game intact as he needed only two frames to make sure his win.
Stevens was able to win only one frame in the final sessions while O’Sullivan took the 27th frame to book his place in the final.
While speaking to World Snooker after his semi-final match-up, O’Sullivan said, “I don't intend to stay in the game long; even though I've been in a much better place I've made the decision that this might be my last time playing in this tournament.”
The 36-year-old added, “I've weighed up the plusses and the minuses and I'm quite comfortable with that decision, if I win it great, absolute bonus, if I don't at least I can say I've gone out on a high. It's been 17 days in Sheffield and I feel like I've
been here two months, I don't know if it's just age catching up but it didn't feel this long when I was 22, maybe it's because I didn't have other things in my life.”
The Wordsley cueman played Carter in the final of the 2008 World Snooker Championship final where he was victorious. The clash will be quite interesting to watch as both players are in good shape.
