Ronnie O’Sullivan thinks Peter Ebdon is slow at baize: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Winner of the 2012 China Open snooker event, England’s Peter Ebdon clinched the final qualifier of the 2012 World Snooker Championship and set up former triple Champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan in the first stage of the event.
However, before their match, O’Sullivan has asked the referees in the Championship to watch the players who play slow at the baize because he believes Ebdon is a slow player and takes too much time to build a break.
During his matches against Ebdon in the past, O’Sullivan realised that the former Champ’s playing style is quite the opposite of his own because he plays furiously while Ebdon is a patient potter who takes time to think before he executes his shot.
Ebdon’s style of potting does not suit the Rocket so he has asked the match officials including the referees to keep an eye on the potting rate of the participants because he believes slower game rate not only bores the spectators but also irritates the
opponent.
O’Sullivan played Ebdon in a crucial quarter-final clash where the Ebdonator took five minutes to build a 12-point break against O’Sullivan which really frustrated the Essex Exocet. This is why he has told the referees to warn the players who try to slow
down the game.
While speaking to the media, O’Sullivan said, “I watched Peter’s semi-final against Ding Junhui in China and it wasn’t good to watch. The referee should have stepped in. There were Chinese fans falling asleep, but maybe the referees are reluctant to get
involved.”
The 36-year-old added, “Players get warned for messing around and time-wasting in football, they get yellow cards. In golf the players can get put on a timer to speed them up. It takes three days to feel right after a long-haul flight like that. He won’t
be at his best, won’t feel great and will suffer from jet lag.”
Snooker’s most prestigious event has begun at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield where all top guns of snooker will battle for the ultimate glory.
The first round line up of the 2012 World Snooker Championship is filled with former World Snooker Championship winners, runner ups and a couple of new faces. The environment has got quite enthusiastic and thrilling as the arena is filled with many snooker
fans.
